spiderlike

/ˈspaɪ.dɚˌlaɪk/ adj

Resembling or characteristic of a spider.

Word Origin Spider comes from Old English spinnþre, literally 'spinner', because spiders spin webs. The -like suffix comes from Old English līc 'body, form', so spiderlike means 'having the form of a spider'. The same root gives us spin and spinner, and the -like suffix appears in childlike, lifelike, and birdlike. The PIE root *spen- meant 'to draw, stretch, spin', so you can almost see the thread being pulled.
