phizog

/fˈɪzɑɡ/ noun C1

the face

Word Origin A playful clipping of 'physiognomy', from Greek 'physis' (nature) and 'gnōmōn' (judge, interpreter). Physiognomy is the art of judging character from facial features. Phizog is slang for face — literally the thing you judge nature by. The 'phys' root gives us 'physics' (nature) and 'physical', while 'gnō' gives us 'know', 'diagnosis' (knowing through), and 'recognize' (know again).
