Word Origin From Greek dia- 'across' and metron 'measure' — so diametrically means 'measured across,' like the full distance through a circle. That's why we say 'diametrically opposed': two points on opposite ends of a diameter, completely at odds. The same dia- prefix gives us dialogue (speech across) and diagnosis (knowing through), while metron appears in metric, thermometer, and symmetry.
