corded

/ˈkɔɹdəd/ adj

Fitted with a cord.

Word Origin Cord comes from Greek khorde 'gut string' (like the strings of a lyre made from animal intestines), via Latin chorda and Old French corde. Corded means having cords or resembling a cord. The same root gives us cordon (a line of people), cordage (ropes), and corduroy (a fabric with cord-like ridges). The PIE root *gʰer- meant 'intestine', so a cord is literally a gut-string. The -ed suffix simply makes it an adjective: 'provided with cords'.
