Word Origin Snootful is a playful word: snoot is a variant of snout (nose), from Proto-Germanic snūtaz, and -ful means 'full of.' So a snootful is literally 'a noseful' — often used for a drink that fills your nose with its aroma, or a snootful of snuff. Snoot also gives us snooty (nose-in-the-air, haughty) and snootiness. The -ful suffix is from fullaz, also in handful, mouthful, and bellyful.
