retranslate

/ɹˌitɹænslˈeɪt/ verb

To translate again or anew.

Word Origin From Latin trans- 'across' and latus 'carried' — literally 'to carry across again.' Translate originally meant 'to transfer,' and retranslate means to translate back or again. The root ferre 'to carry' gives us transfer, refer, prefer, and offer. The PIE root *bher- 'to carry' also gives us bear, birth, and burden. So retranslate is a great example of how 'carrying' words can describe moving meaning between languages.
