ranchland

/ˈɹæntʃɫənd/ noun

Land used for ranching, or raising livestock

Word Origin Ranchland combines ranch, from Mexican Spanish 'rancho' 'small farm,' and land. 'Rancho' originally meant 'a group eating together' — a communal meal — then a hut, then a farm. So ranchland is the land where that communal, rustic life happens. The same root gives us rank (a row) and range (a line of mountains).
