creditably

/ˈkɹɛdətəbɫi/ adv

In a creditable manner; reputably, without disgrace.

Word Origin Creditably comes from credit, from Latin credere 'to believe'. Credit originally meant 'trust, belief' — when you give credit, you're believing in someone's ability to repay. So creditably means 'in a way that deserves belief or trust'. The same root gives us credible, credence, and accreditation. The PIE root *kred-dhe- 'to place one's heart' is the heart of it all.
