Word Origin From Greek ana- 'according to' and logos 'ratio, reckoning' — so analogical is about reasoning by proportion. The root logos is incredibly productive: it gives us dialogue (speech across), prologue (speech before), and logic (structured speech). But here, logos means 'ratio', so analogy is literally 'according to ratio'. The same ana- prefix appears in anatomy (cutting up) and analysis (loosening up).
