accelerative

/ækˈsɛl.əˌɹeɪt.ɪv/ adj

Relating to acceleration; adding to velocity; quickening.

Word Origin Accelerative comes from Latin accelerare, from ad- 'to' and celer 'swift' — so it means 'tending to speed up.' The root celer also gives us celerity (swiftness). The prefix ad- assimilates to ac- before c. Decelerate is the opposite, with de- 'down from.' So accelerative is literally 'toward swiftness.'
