openly

/ˈoʊpənɫi/ adv A1, B2

without secrets

Word Origin From Old English open, from Proto-Germanic *upanaz 'open' — the PIE root *upo- meant 'under, up from under,' which is a great example of how 'open' is about lifting something up to reveal what's beneath. The same root gives us up, over, and above. Openly just adds -ly, but the core idea is that openness is about bringing things to light.
