flutelike

/flˈutlaɪk/ adj

Resembling a flute or the sound of flute music

Word Origin Flute comes from Old French flaute, probably imitative of the sound. The suffix -like from Old English līc 'body, form' — so flutelike is 'flute-shaped' or 'flute-sounding.' The same -like gives us childlike, lifelike, birdlike. Flute also gives us flutist and flautist (from Italian). The word's origin is uncertain but may be from Latin flare 'to blow'.
