enlister

/ɛnlˈɪstɚ/ noun

One who enlists.

Word Origin An enlister is someone who enlists others. Enlist comes from en- 'in' and list, which originally meant a border or strip (Latin lista), then a roll of names. So to enlist is to put someone on the list. The same root gives us list (a series), listing, and even enlistment. The PIE *leizd- meant edge or border.
