adherently

/ədˈhɪɹəntli/ adv

In an adherent manner.

Word Origin From Latin ad- 'to' and haerere 'to stick' — literally 'in a sticking-to manner.' The root haerere gives us adhere, cohere, inherent, and adhesive. The PIE root *ǵʰais- 'to stick, cling' also appears in hesitate (to stick in indecision) and perhaps in hair (something that sticks out). So adherently is a great example of how physical sticking became a metaphor for loyalty and attachment.
