wishfully

/ˈwɪʃfəɫi/ adv

In a wishful manner.

Word Origin From Proto-Germanic *wunskijaną 'to wish,' from the PIE root *wen- 'to desire.' Add -ful 'full of' and -ly to get wishfully: 'in a manner full of wishing.' The same root gives us wishbone (the bone you wish on), and also win (to strive for) and venerate. So wishfully is literally 'desire-fully.'
