Lacking knowledge: ignorant, naive, or both.

Word Origin 'Knowledge' comes from Old English 'cnāwan' (to know) and the suffix '-lāc' (like in wedlock). Knowledgeable adds the Latin -able to mean 'capable of knowing.' Unknowledgeable then negates that. The root 'know' is from PIE *gno-, which also gives us 'gnostic,' 'ignore,' and 'recognize.' The stacking of suffixes is a great example of English's hybrid nature.
