patroller

/pəˈtɹəʊlə/ noun

One who patrols.

Word Origin Patrol comes from Old French patrouiller, literally 'to paddle about in the mud'—from patte 'paw,' the idea of soldiers tramping through muck on guard duty. A patroller is one who patrols. The same root patte gives us patois (a rustic dialect, originally 'pawing' speech) and perhaps even patty (a little paw-shaped cake).
