flatulently

/ˈfɫætʃəɫəntli/ adv

In a flatulent manner or fashion.

Word Origin From Latin flare 'to blow' — literally 'in a windy manner.' The root flare gives us inflate (blow into), deflate (blow out), and flatulence (the condition of blowing). The PIE root *bhle- 'to blow' also appears in blow, bladder, and blast. So flatulently is a great example of how a simple verb for blowing air became the basis for a whole family of words about gas and swelling.
