unsurprising

/ənsɝˈpɹaɪzɪŋ/ adj

Not surprising; expected.

Word Origin Surprise comes from Latin super 'over' and prehendere 'to seize' — literally 'overtake, seize from above'. So something surprising grabs you unexpectedly. Unsurprising is just the opposite: not grabbing you. The same root prehendere gives us comprehend, apprehend, and even prison (something that seizes you).
