newly

/ˈnuɫi/ adv B1

recently

Word Origin From PIE *newo- 'new, fresh' — a root that's been with us for millennia. 'Newly' simply adds -ly to 'new' to mean 'recently, in a new way.' The same root gives us 'novel' (something new), 'novice' (a new person), and 'innovate' (to bring in new things). The word 'news' is actually the plural of 'new' — new things.
