To address (a letter, etc.) incorrectly.

Word Origin Address comes from Latin ad- 'to' and directus 'straight' — literally 'to make straight to,' meaning to direct a message or oneself. Misaddress means to address wrongly. The root directus gives us direct, direction, and redress (set straight again). The prefix mis- means 'wrongly.'
