liverless

/ˈɫɪvɝləs/ adj

Without a liver.

Word Origin Liverless means without a liver. 'Liver' from Old English 'lifer', the organ. The suffix -less (from 'lēas') means lacking. So a liverless creature is missing that organ. Interestingly, the PIE root *leip- meant 'to stick, adhere' — perhaps because the liver is a fatty, sticky organ? The same root gives us 'live' (to remain, stick around) and 'alive' (in life). So liver and life are distantly connected.
