atomically

/ˈætəmɪkəli/ adv

With regard to atoms or atomic energy.

Word Origin From Greek atomos 'uncuttable' — a- 'not' + tomos 'cut'. Ancient philosophers thought atoms were indivisible. The root tom- 'cut' appears in anatomy (cutting up), dichotomy (cutting in two), and lobotomy. So atomically means at the level of the 'uncuttable' — though we later split the atom, ironically.
