unpiloted

/ʌnpˈaɪləɾᵻd/ adj

Lacking a pilot

Word Origin Pilot traces back to Greek pēdon 'rudder' or 'blade' — the thing that steers a ship. Unpiloted simply means without a pilot, like an unpiloted aircraft. The un- prefix negates, and -ed makes it an adjective. The same root gives us pilotless and autopilot (self-steering). The PIE root *ped- 'foot' is also in pedal and pedestrian — steering with your feet, in a way.
