torrentially

/tɔˈɹɛnʃəɫli/ adv

In a torrential manner, or to a torrential degree

Word Origin Surprisingly, 'torrent' comes from Latin 'torrere' meaning 'to parch, burn' — a torrent was originally a boiling, rushing stream, as if heated by fire. Torrentially means 'in a raging, overwhelming flow'. The same root gives us 'toast' (via Old French 'toster' to roast) and 'thirst' (from the dryness). The PIE *ters- 'dry' also underlies 'terra' (dry land) and 'territory'.
