robotize

/ˈɹəʊbətaɪz/ verb

To automate, especially by making use of robots.

Word Origin Robot comes from Czech robota meaning 'forced labor' or 'drudgery,' coined by Karel Čapek in his 1920 play R.U.R. So robotize literally means 'to turn into forced labor' — to automate something. The PIE root *h₃erbh- also gives us orphan (a child separated from parents, perhaps originally 'one who works') and arbiter (one who goes to work, a judge). A surprising connection: robots and orphans share a root about labor.
