muddier

/ˈmədiɝ/ adj A1, B2

more dirty

Word Origin From Proto-Germanic *mud-, meaning mud or swamp. Muddy is the adjective, and muddier is the comparative: more muddy. The PIE root *meu- meant 'moist, wet,' giving us words like musty and moss. The double d in muddy is a spelling convention to keep the vowel short. So muddier is literally 'more mud-like.'
