foreknowingly

/fˈɔɹnˌoʊɪŋli/ adv

With foreknowledge; knowing beforehand.

Word Origin From Old English fore 'before' and cnawan 'to know' — to foreknow is to know beforehand. Foreknowingly means with prior knowledge. The same root cnawan gives us know, knowledge, acknowledge, and even can (to be able, originally to know how), cunning (knowing), and ken (to know). The PIE root *gno- meant 'to know,' and also gives us cognition, recognize, ignore, diagnosis.
