deskwork

/ˈdɛskwɜɹk/ noun

Work done at a desk, as by an office worker.

Word Origin A compound of desk and work. Desk comes from Latin discus, meaning a disk or round plate — originally a writing table was a flat disk-like surface. Work is from Proto-Germanic werką, related to wrought (as in wrought iron). So deskwork is literally 'work done at a flat surface.' The same discus gives us disc, disk, and even dish.
