codeless

/ˈkoʊdləs/ adj

Having no code (in any sense)

Word Origin From Latin 'codex' originally meaning a tree trunk, then a wooden writing tablet, then a book of laws. Codeless means without a code, lacking a system of rules. The suffix -less is from Proto-Germanic 'lausaz' (loose, free from). The same root codex gives us codify (to make into a code), encode, and decode. So codeless is lawless, unstructured.
