leftmost

/lˈɛftmoʊst/ adj

superlative form of left: most left; furthest to the left.

Word Origin A compound of left and most — so leftmost is the furthest to the left. The word left comes from Proto-Germanic *lufta-, which also meant 'weak, limp' (because the left hand was considered weaker). That's why left-handedness was once stigmatized. The same root gives us leftward, lefty, and leftist. Most is from the superlative of much, also in foremost, utmost, and almost.
