intracellular

/ˌɪntɹɑˈsɛɫjəɫɝ/ adj

Inside or within a cell.

Word Origin Intracellular literally means 'within the cell' — from Latin intra 'inside' and cella 'small room.' The word cell itself originally meant a monk's tiny room, then was applied to biological cells by Robert Hooke because they looked like little rooms under a microscope. The same root gives us cellar (a room underground) and cellular.
