inasmuch

/ˌɪˈnæsmək/ adv

In like degree; in like manner; to the same or similar degree; likewise.

Word Origin Inasmuch is a compound of in, as, and much. Much comes from Proto-Germanic mikilaz 'great, large,' from PIE *meg- 'great.' That same root gives us magnify, magnitude, mega, and mickle (an old word for 'much'). Inasmuch means 'to the extent that, since.' The phrase is a legalistic combination that's been used since the 14th century.
