genomically

/dʒɛnˈɑmɪkli/ adv

With reference to a genome

Word Origin The root 'genos' means 'race, kind' — same as in genocide (killing a kind) and progeny (offspring). Genome combines 'genos' with 'soma' (body) to mean the complete set of genes, the body's blueprint. So genomically is doing something with respect to the entire genome. The same 'gen' root appears in hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen — those 'gen' endings mean 'producing' (water-producer, acid-producer, niter-producer). So genomically literally means 'in a way relating to the whole genetic body.'
