fungoid

/fˈʌŋɡɔɪd/ adj B2

resembling a fungus

Word Origin Fungoid means 'resembling a fungus'. It combines Latin fungus 'mushroom' and Greek -oid 'like, in the shape of' (from eidos 'form'). The -oid suffix is incredibly productive: asteroid (star-like), humanoid, android (man-like). The root eidos is from PIE *weid- 'to see', which also gives us idea, video, and vision. So fungoid is mushroom-shaped.
