combustibility

/kəmbˌʌstəbˈɪlᵻɾi/ noun

The quality or state of being combustible

Word Origin Combustibility comes from combust, from Latin com- (intensive) and urere 'to burn' — literally 'to burn up completely'. The root urere gives us combustion, combustible, and adust (scorched). So combustibility is the capacity to be burned. The PIE root *eus- 'to burn' is also in ember.
