unbraided

/ʌnbɹˈeɪdᵻd/ adj

Not braided

Word Origin From Old English bregdan 'to braid, weave, pull quickly' — braiding is interlacing strands. Unbraided means not braided, loose. The same root gives us upbraid (to scold, originally 'to pull up' or 'twist up' in reproach). So unbraided hair is free from those twisted strands.
