fanged

/fˈæŋd/ adj

Equipped with fangs.

Word Origin Fang comes from Old English fōn 'to seize, catch' — so a fang is literally a 'seizer', the tooth that grabs prey. That's why 'fanged' means equipped with these seizing teeth. The same root appears in 'newfangled', which originally meant 'newly seized' (newly taken up), and then came to mean 'newfashioned, novel'. The PIE root *pā- also gives us 'feed' and 'food' — all about taking in.
