cytoplast

/sˈaɪɾəplˌæst/ noun

The intact cytoplasm of a cell from which the nucleus has been removed.

Word Origin From Greek 'kytos' (cell) and 'plastos' (formed) — a cytoplast is a formed cell structure. The 'cyto-' prefix appears in cytoplasm, cytology, and cytochrome. The '-plast' part is the same as in plastic, protoplast, and chloroplast. The idea of molding is from PIE *pele- (to spread, flat).
